It's been a busy day for news, hasn't it?
Today at the Samsung Unpacked conference in Germany, Samsung announced its first smart watch, unsurprisingly titled the Galaxy Gear.
Unlike most previous attempts at a smart watch, the Galaxy Gear features speakers and a microphone, allowing you to answer calls without getting your phone out.
The stainless steel watch houses a touch screen interface which shows text messages, emails and allows you to access apps, take photos (it has a camera, too) as well as make and receive calls.
From the descriptions given of the device, it appears like it will be a Bluetooth extension of your mobile phone, rather than acting as a replacement to a phone. Technical details are little on the scarce side right now as it's only just been announced.
Galaxy Gear will come in 6 colours, apparently be comfortable enough to wear all day and will release in 140 countries alongside the Galaxy Note 3 on September 25th.
For me, I'm not sure there is a market for a smart watch. It seems like the answer to a question no one asked. I mean, other than living out your favourite Joe 90 fantasies, there doesn't seem to be much use for it. And I can imagine you would look quite silly speaking into your wrist.
However, I'm all for being proved wrong if it proves to be a hit.
The question is, would you have one? Let me know in the comments
If it wasn't Samsung then yes... Definitely
